Treat glass and quartz spray chambers with the care due to brittle materials
- avoid physical shocks and pad them carefully when storing them.
Any spray chamber will function best when its internal surfaces are clean and kept as close
to the original physical condition as possible.
. Immerse them weekly for a minimum 2 hours in a 'conditioning solution' :
- an alkaline detergent, for glass and quartz spray chambers,
- a mildly acidic solution ( 1% HNO3 ) for polymer chambers.
Ensure that all connections are gas-tight
- even small leaks of air into the chamber can degrade stability and can cause plasma ignition difficulty.
At the end of each period of use, wash out with a mildly acid or DI water for > 2 mins.
A short flush, less than 2 mins, with 1% HF can improve glass and quartz chamber stability :
- this should be done at monthly intervals, not more frequently.
Take care with HF - it's a weak acid but highly corrosive and toxic.
