  • Treat glass and quartz spray chambers with the care due to brittle materials
       -  avoid physical shocks and pad them carefully when storing them.

  • Any spray chamber will function best when its internal surfaces are clean and kept as close to the original physical condition as possible.
.  Immerse them weekly for a minimum 2 hours in a 'conditioning solution'  :
       -  an alkaline detergent, for glass and quartz spray chambers,
       -  a mildly acidic solution ( 1% HNO3 ) for polymer chambers.

  • Ensure that all connections are gas-tight
       -  even small leaks of air into the chamber can degrade stability and can cause plasma ignition difficulty.

  • At the end of each period of use, wash out with a mildly acid or DI water for > 2 mins.

  • A short flush, less than 2 mins, with 1% HF can improve glass and quartz chamber stability :
       -  this should be done at monthly intervals, not more frequently.

  • Take care with HF - it's a weak acid  but highly corrosive and toxic.
